Hydrogen can be produced in a clean way from water by its electrochemical splitting. Water electrolysis consists of two half-reactions, which the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is major source energy loss. In case alkaline electrolysis, spectrum materials that are stable under conditions OER significantly broader than an acidic route. This review compares systematically different classes based on reported overpotential at current density 10 mA cm?2. Plethora studies was gathered to accomplish this task and catalysts literature date summarized. addition, we have provided insight into catalyst activity descriptors allowing theoretical identification most active materials. order assist reader gaining better understanding complex subject, classified three main groups agreement with their chemical composition as transition metal oxides, phosphides selenides. Less frequently used separate group. Near-neutral or neutral pH considered well.
